Day Forty - Wiggins to Pascagoula

Today we are riding 67 miles. I'm riding with Sue today. We got an early start and just kept moving. At this point in the trip, we are anxious just to get from point "A" to point "B". Everything is still fairly nice. The weather, the roads, the scenery. We made pretty good time. We just stopped briefly for my ice cream at a little corner store. Our seats were definitely needing a break. We pulled in at about 12:30 and went to the hospital next door to our hotel for lunch. It was great. I had ribs, cornbread and sweet peas. How am I ever going to be able to eat normally again? After lunch, Shelley, Mary, Amy and I went on a little tour of the town. (on our bikes?) We were told that Pascagoula had a lot of damage from Katrina, and that they were still doing some rebuilding down by the beach. We rode down there and went out to the end of the pier where we met a very nice local couple. The woman in the picture, Cecila, told us that she was also here for the hurricane in 1969. I think she said it was hurricane camilia. Anyway, she said that both hurricanes happened on August 29th. I will not be coming here in August of any year! It was a pleasure just to take a leisurely ride through town and look at the homes etc. We got back to our hotel, The La Font Inn, expecting this fantastic pool with sparkling blue water. Well, I guess times are hard here too because it wasn't sparkling and it definitely wasn't blue. We just showered and headed to happy hour. Everything looks better after happy hour.

37 days down and 13 days to go.
