Today was our rest day and that is exactly what I did. I have been reflecting on the trip so far, and there are a few things that I find interesting. We have determined that there are two groups of riders. The Big Girls, or, to be exact, the girls that ride in the big ring, and the other girls, the ones that ride in the middle ring. The great thing about it, is that no matter how you choose to ride, there is a place for you here. Some of us feel that we need to ride every mile, and others simply ride the portions that challenge them, but don't feel the need to push beyond their personal limits. A lot of the woman are reaching goals and riding in conditions, like snow, that they never thought they were capable of. Some of them actually stop and smell the flowers and take the time to enjoy the points of interest along the way. We call them our sweepers. Then there are the women that have had to deal with physical and mechanical problems beyond their control that have prevented them from participating in some of the rides. I can see the frustration in their faces. I know how I would feel. All in all, we are all reaching our own personal goals (like riding your first century) and each night we get together at happy hour and celebrate that days achievements. I feel very fortunate to be a part of is experience. These woman are amazing and I have no doubt that we will all see it through to the very end.
My roommate today is Sue Hersman, she is 54 and a real estate investor. Her boyfriend Bob visited us in Kerrville and rode with us a couple of days. Her picture is the first one for today.
Some of these pictures were taken by the other ladies. They are just random shots along the way.
