Day Forty-one - Pascagoula to Dauphin Island

Today was probably the most enjoyable ride of the trip so far. We got to sleep in and leave later than usual. We only had 42 miles to ride and we had a mission. It was Carol's (one of our ride leaders) birthday and we had to find presents for her. We hunted and hunted and made a lot of stops and picked up quite a few things for her including, two oyster buckets, a book by V.C. Andrews, a fishing net, a fly swatter, a leatherman (it was a little rusty but we used it to pull a piece of glass out of Linda's tire. She had a flat on the bridge.), a small knife, beads, a baseball cap, I think you get the idea. About eight miles into the ride there was an alligator farm. I couldn't bring myself to go in, but Karen agreed to send me some pictures. We crossed the bridge into Dauphin Island, Alabama. (margarita night) We had lunch at Barnacle Bill's and still had time to hit the beach for a swim. It was great. Oh, the beads I told you I keep seeing on the side of the road that were probably left overs from Mardi Gras? Well, Lynn, who lives in Florida, told me that the locals often put beads on dead animals on the side of the road to dress them up a bit. I think there must be something in all of the fish they eat down here. Quite strange if you ask me. Tomorrow is another day off. I'm really looking forward to it.

38 days down and 12 days to go.
