Day Thirty-five - Lake Charles to Lafayette

Today was our second 80+ mile day in a row. We passed rice fields, crawfish fields, (the water with the markers), and sugar cane fields. There were watery ditches on the side of the road with old TVs, toilets, etc. thrown into them. It sort of smelled like the bay. It was nothing like the lush landscape we had been seeing the last few days. The only highlight of the ride was the place we stopped for lunch. I had a hamburger and seasoned french fries. (everyone else had the crawfish po'boys) We complemented the owner on the seasoning and he gave us each a baggie of it to take home. (more southern hospitality). As far as the ride went, we just pushed through it because we knew that we had something to look forward to later in Lafayette. Lynn, from Florida, does a ride in the area called the Zydeco Ride. Zydeco, is a type of music described as fast tempo and dominated by a button or piano accordian and a form of a washboard known as a "rub-board" or a "scrub-board". It's very similiar to cajun music. On this ride, they get a dance lesson and they go to Rondols, a local restaurant to practice their moves. Well, the restaurant was only two miles from our hotel, so she got us reservations and we went dancing. We had a great time. Oh, another thing I did notice that was exciting was about every ten miles or so, I would see beads on the side of the road. No doubt, leftovers from Mardi Gras.

31 days down and 19 days to go.
