As expected, today's ride was 46 miles with 4721 feet of elevation gain. The difference between today's ride and yesterday's ride, was that today we had some great downhills. We rode through a beautiful valley, we saw the kneeling nun rock formation then we climbed up to the Emory Pass Vista at 8228 elevation. It is the highest point of our ride. The views from the top were fantastic. I don't mind the climbing so much when the rewards are so great. After enjoying the views, we dropped 6 miles down to the town of Kingston, population 30. It's pretty cold up here. Some of the women that were behind us actually got snowed on.
Tonight we're staying at a very unique bed and breakfast. It's run by a woman named Kathryn. It reminds you of a hippie commune straight out of the 60s. The original home was built back in the 1800s. There are several great rooms with sofas, one with a pool table, books, games etc.. They cooked us a turkey dinner tonight. Everything they cook here is made from scratch and is organic and it was absolutely delicious. We're told that breakfast will be even better. I can't wait.
We are 1/4 of the way through our ride at this point having riden 779 miles to date.
15 days down and 43 to go.
