Today our ride is 90 miles long with winds and climbing. Carol told us it would be the hardest day of the trip. Our total elevation gain was 4377 which isn't too bad except that the difficult climbing didn't even start until mile 62. The winds were blowing, but not as bad as the straight on headwinds we had last week. For those of you that ride in the Lincoln area, the roads are just like the roads out by Camp Fire West. UGLY! There were no towns to pass through, so Linda made us lunch out of her kitchen trailer at about mile 44. It was great as usual. We plugged along inch by inch and made it to Fort Davis by about 4:00pm. We were totally whipped. We are staying at the Indian Lodge. It's a great place, very rustic and quiet. It was Sue's birthday today and she received a new seat in the mail. At this point, we all wished we had new seats. We had a great dinner and hit the sack. Oh, by the way, I had two more flats today. One, which I fixed on the highway, and another one that had a slow leak. I just kept pumping it up until I got here, then I changed it. I forgot to mention the one I had night before last which brings me to a total of 6. That puts me in the lead in the flat tire derby. Sometimes I think I'm just too competitive for my own good. Tomorrow is a rest day and believe me we need it!
Thanks to those of you that have been sending words of encouragement. They really help get me through the tough days. :)
21 days down and 34 to go.
