We were told we only had 46 miles to do today. Well, we all know by now that there must be climbing involved, and there was. We gradually climbed 2500 feet in the first 25 miles at which point we were in the Gila Mountains and came upon the Continental Divide. It's nice to have a change in the landscape. A local fireman (Pete) was driving by and stopped to suggest we move a little farther off of the road. We got to talking and found out he had completed the Ride Across America Race in 9 days in 2007. Amazing! He said he only slept about 3 or 4 hours a night. We continued to climb with Mary in the lead. (she is today's featured picture) Our legs were shattered from the previous days ride so we were taking it pretty easy. Mary, representing Ohio, took the gold for today. We pulled into Silver City at about 3:00. We had to hit the local bike shop for her bike today. In all we cycled 49 miles with 3900 feet of elevation gain.
Linda made us cornbeef and cabbage for dinner with bread pudding for desert.
After dinner some of the girls celebrated with a little dancing in the parking lot.
Tomorrow is a rest day and boy do we need it.
