We were really excited to know that we would be starting today's ride with a great homemade breakfast and about a 6 mile downhill. What we weren't thinking about was the temperature. Our best guess is that it was around 30 degrees give or take, with a wind chill. We were absolutely freezing! I had on layer after layer and it was still cold. We came upon an RV park about 9 miles out that had a little coffee shop.
We stayed there until we had pretty much thawed out. The temperature finally went up enough so that we could continue. Not enough to remove any clothing, but enough so that we could ride without shivering. After the 6 mile downhill and a little climbing to get out of the mountains, we were on pretty flat roads. We finally picked up a tailwind. With 75 miles to go we were EXTREMELY greatful for it. We continued on at a pretty good pace and made it to Las Cruces about 3:30.
Once again, we rewarded ourselves with a treat. This time it was Caliches frozen custard. I had a sundae with vanilla custard, pecans, and chocolate fudge. It was the best sundae I have ever had. After 88 miles with 1207 feet of elevation gain for the day, we had dinner and went to bed early! No pictures today because I forgot my camera. I left it in my suitcase.
14 days down and 42 to go.

I want that sundae but I sure don't want to ride 88 miles for it. You earned it! Good job!!!
